Bingeing on YT videos

I’ve been planning to subscribe to Netflix for months and months now but I also want to replace the TV in my room first before I do that. I don’t think I can watch a full movie or a series on my laptop (or cellphone) for long periods without it straining my already-swollen eyes.

The Skyworth TV in my room is about to die anytime soon, which is why I’ve been canvassing a replacement since October last year. I don’t have the moolah to buy high-end ones, so I’ve been eyeing this moderately-priced TCL 32-inch Android TV which costs about 12K. My plan was to do a partial cash-out and just do a monthly installment for the balance (I can’t pay it all in cash, not when I still have a lot of bills to think about). Hopefully soon, I will get that brand-new TV and finally the Netflix subscription.

In the meantime, as my TV is in bad shape that most of the time I couldn’t see a damn thing, I binge on YouTube videos lately. I’m sporadically watching beauty vlogger Anne Clutz and Filipino-American stand-up comic Jo Koy until I saw a lot of personalized video recommendations from Facebook Watch. From here I am able to discover interesting videos and now subscribed to a number of YT channels.

I’m currently hooked on Bailey Sarian. She’s that heavily-tattooed makeup artist who does makeup tutorials while narrating true crime stories through her ‘Murder, Mystery & Makeup’ series.

Oh goodness, not only that she’s a talented makeup artist who can create the most dramatic smoky and winged eyeshadow ever, but she’s also very engaging in an almost effortless, quirky kind of way. It just feels like gossiping with a girlfriend about serial killers while doing makeup. Her crime storytelling would suck you in that you’ll be surprised you’ve finished a 40-minute video without even noticing it. I have to say that she now trumps Jamie French as my favorite makeup artist/YouTuber. I mean, makeup and true-crime stories? I’m in!

I’ve also recently discovered the late great comic, Jonathan Winters, and have been watching his Johnny Carson interviews and comedy routines over and over for days now. I tell you, I can’t think of a comedian living or dead that could match him when it comes to improvisation, quick-wit, and timing. Even the late Robin Williams was very vocal on how he pretty much worshipped the guy.

I would find myself laughing while watching his interviews even from years before I was born. It’s something that I would recommend people to do at this time when we’re all stressed out and just a tick away from going bonkers. Watching his videos helped me a great deal in feeling relaxed after a day’s work from home. After all, his videos were from simpler times when political correctness wasn’t a big deal and people can take a joke and were not as easily offended.

If my Daddy were alive today, I know we’d be watching these videos and having a laugh together. I’m sure he had mentioned Jonathan Winters’ brilliance to us back then only that we were too young and uninterested (for someone who never even finished Grade School, my Dad has such good taste when it comes to people he admires).

I’ve also subscribed and watched some videos from iilluminaughtii but I have to say that her exposés on multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes, shady businesses, etc. can get droning after a while. It only goes to show how I get bored so quickly.

It’s true that YouTube videos are indeed my source of entertainment these days. But knowing myself, I’d probably get tired of this after some time and would find myself reaching for the TV remote again because I’m old-school like that.

Sigh, I really hope I can get a new TV now.
