My Christmas Wishlist (2021 Edition)

Photo by Juliana Malta on Unsplash

Today marks the beginning of the -ber months and for Filipinos, the countdown to Christmas starts now.

This is the time of the year when I get excited looking forward to my favorite season. Yes, even at my age and even in the midst of this unprecedented pandemic, I’m still excited for Christmas. I like how even in the most depressing of times, the thought of celebrating another one still brings hope and joy for me.

And in the spirit of the season, my friends and I are already talking about our annual Christmas wishlist, which of course will be done virtually just like last year. Tentatively, we’ll have it on November 27 and we’re also trying to come up with a theme. Last year was fun but because it was our first time to do it over Zoom, there were snags and challenges. Many times, the conversation turned toward awkward silence. It’s so hard to keep it going when there are unfilled pauses and there’s nothing else to say.

Meanwhile, we also agreed that our wishlist is limited only to what can be ordered online so that it would also be easier (and safer) for the gifter. I know that it takes away the fun of a shopping dash and then doing the revelation face-to-face over lunch or dinner but I guess this would be fine for now as COVID cases are still on the rise.

***

Two years ago, I came up with my Wishful Thinking Wishlist and for the fun of it, I will be doing it again today. I called it “wishful thinking” because it’s not something I’m expecting to get being that it’s pricier than the usual gifts I receive.

Besides, a wishlist doesn’t always mean something I would like to receive as a gift, but more like what I want to get for myself. For the previous list I made in 2019, I was able to buy three of the items—which isn’t too bad as far as wishlists go.

I also noticed that I don’t have that many items on my wishlist this year. I don’t need clothes, shoes, and bags since I’m always home anyway. I also didn’t include big-ticket items like cellphones, laptops, or any other gadgets because I don’t see the need for them at the moment.

…and before some killjoy calls me out for making this now that we’re in a COVID pandemic, please just do me a favor and click that [x] on your browser. Do not ruin this for me.

So, here it is. My Christmas wishlist for 2021...

DYMO LetraTag LT-100T Label Maker

I remember the vintage Dymo embossing label maker in Grade School and how one enterprising classmate would charge us like 25-50 cents per letter if we want to have our bookends labeled with our names.

This would be a nifty addition to my personal office supplies and particularly useful when labeling my bottles of essential oil blends, jars, and my nephews’ school items like scissors, pencils, etc. It’s also cool that it has 7 print styles, 5 font sizes, 195 symbols, and 8 border styles. The label itself is water, oil, abrasion, and temperature resistant.

The best thing about it is that I wouldn’t have to pay 25-50¢ per letter. 😊

Comfort Living PH Premium Memory ORTHOPEDIC Pillow with Cooling Gel Layer

Santa baby, this is just what I need. I have been suffering from chronic neck pain because of my cervical kyphosis and investing in a good orthopedic pillow is something that I should’ve done a long time ago.

Maybe because it’s actually expensive for a pillow which is why the kuripot manang in me had been putting off the order for quite some time now. Also, my cousin Chi gave me a Queen-size pillow last Christmas which costs less than half the price of this one and so far, is just okay. Still, I would like to get myself this premium one soon for my aging neck’s sake.

The Blanket Hug Weighted Blanket

A weighted blanket (weighs around 15 lbs.) may be nothing but a costly fad but this one has lots of tempting promises. It says that this can relieve anxiety and stress, ease insomnia, and improve the quality of sleep thanks to what they call “pressure therapy” that mimics the feeling of being hugged and swaddled. For a light sleeper like me, I think this would really help me get an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

There are less expensive weighted blankets in Shopee (₱2,205 - ₱2,970) and I wonder if that delivers the same promise. Because, really, paying almost 6K for a blanket might only cause me more sleepless nights after.

Xiaomi Mijia Smart Bladeless Standing Fan

I hate the noisy, generic stand fan in my room. It not only takes up so much space, I always get accidentally injured by the blades, and its very hard to clean. I’ve been looking at bladeless tower fans online and found this one which is slightly pricier than other brands such as Camel, 3D, and Imarflex but way cheaper than Dyson.

Actually, any tower fan would be great and I would prefer it in black because it would look better in my room.

Swatch Once Again

I find the design so classic and basic. Best for the perpetual jeans-and-shirt girl like me. Midlife has made me more nostalgic as well and I’d like as much as possible to buy things that remind me of the good ol’ days.

Remember how similar styles looked so good on Mikee Cojuangco in the early `90s?

Japanese Tatami Chair

We don’t have much space at home so this tatami chair will just be perfect because it’s foldable and adjustable. This will be great when I want to be all cozy while watching TV or reading because it won
’t hurt my back, neck, or shoulders. This item has been sitting on my cart for a while now waiting for me to hit the “checkout” button.

The only problem is I’m sure this will be a big hit to my nephews and I may have to wait my turn to sit on it.

Viodefense Cube UVC Box Sterilizer Medical Grade

I wouldn’t normally need something like this but we’re at a different time now because of COVID. This medical-grade box right here claims that it can kill 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, and molds without harming your belongings. Best for cellphone, watches, jewelry, face mask, money (I always tell the kids to wash their hands/spray alcohol after holding money), or anything that can fit inside it.

ILIFE V5s Pro High-Performance sweeping robot - 1000Pa

When you live with kids who can’t stop eating their snacks or with someone like me with a bad case of hair fall, sweeping the floor can sometimes be a chore. I have a trusty vacuum cleaner that I bought a couple of years ago which I use to pick up my hair strands but sometimes there are hard-to-reach areas that my vacuum can’t get through unless I lift the chairs, tables, boxes, and furniture.

So please don’t judge me if I want this robot vacuum to do the ad-hoc cleaning and get in those intricate spaces and sweep away food crumbs, hair, and dust.

There are actually cheaper robot vacuums available that you can get around 700 - 2000 pesos but will only be a total waste of money as it doesn’t do the job well.  This mid-range brand, however, has very good reviews on Shopee because of its sensors and strong suction.

Price: ₱8,499 at Shopee

So there you have it, not a long list for me this year. Looking at it now, I actually came up with something more realistic and doable compared to the one I made in 2019. I guess one’s likes and wants change when you’re in a middle of a deadly pandemic and you only spend most of the days at home.
